King was kind enough to let me chat with me about himself, his MMA team & gym.
Could you tell me a little bit about yourself?
- My name is King Navi. 47 years old, father of three sons, currently living in Los Angeles,Ca born in Sacramento, Ca lived in Sacramento my three boys until my oldest son Navi jr was given advice to go to la where he can go against proper competition. I've been managing my boyz and a few other local fighters for about 10 years and I'm the owner of We The Best.
How did you start Rumble Sports and who with?
- I opened We The Best by myself so my fighters can get great training. It's alot of other gyms out there but either coaching isn't good or too expensive.
As an owner what is so difficult about running a MMA gym and why?
- Well, we have two main products: teaching and a family atmosphere. Our instructors are all very, very good at what they do, so I know they live up to our goal of supplying instruction for everyone.
Besides that, I strive to evolve every part of the gym, we are currently seeking a nutrition partner.
What makes your gym so unique and different from others?
- I have a bunch of ideas regarding how to teach, the atmosphere in the gym, fighting mentality, coaching in a fight, evolution of techniques and so forth. I'm not sure if we do things differently than others, but I do know, that what we're doing, is working pretty well in the short run.
I try to learn something new every single day both as a manager and as a gym owner, so I really strive to find inspiration and new ideas from other managers and owners.
Any hot prospects within your gym who you believe are about to be big of course excluding your own fighters?
- We have quite a few up-and-coming amateurs, who seem very promising, but I'd like to let them showcase their skills in the cage and ring, rather than me starting the hype train too early.
What do you enjoy the most about running your own MMA gym?
- I enjoy the interaction with all the members, and I love seeing the different individuals progress. I couldn't do any of this without my fellow Unit members backing me.
