DFC: Mayhem 1.5 (15 July ‘16 – Bob’s Bar, Las Vegas) Preview and Predictions – Written by Gabe T.S. Gardner (112290)

DFC Mayhem 1.5 takes place on the same night as the inaugural edition of Mayhem as DFC takes over the MMA scene in Las Vegas holding two events on the same night in two separate venues, the second of which is from Bob’s Bar; showcasing  some of the best talent in the state.

Fight 1
Erik Larson 1-0-0 vs Gurrr “Grraaa” Yahh 0-1-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 185lbs

Larson will want to build on his debut victory by taking Yahh out early here, but will have to be weary of the significant reach and striking advantage of his opponent.

While Yahh does have a significantly better chance if this fight is kept upright, I think Larsons BJJ skills and wrestling ability are way too good for Yahh to handle.

I predict Larson submits Yahh in the first round, sending Yahh back to the drawing board.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Erik Larson, Round 1 (SUB)

Fight 2
Jack McVitie Bells 1-0-0 vs Brandon “The Crow” Stark 2-0-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 185lbs

Two relative newcomers to the sport face off here in a middleweight bout. Stark has a great BJJ and wrestling game and should look to use this to full effect against McVitie, who has a superior stand-up game and great wrestling.

I think that if Jack can catch Stark early he has a great chance of winning this fight, but Stark has shown to be calm, collected and has submitted his first two opponents inside the first round.

However, I think the striking ability of McVitie may be just too much for him, and I think he is going to catch him early.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Jack McVitie, Round 1 (TKO/KO)

Fight 3
Boris Klein 0-0-0 v James Myres 1-0-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 265lbs

A much anticipated heavyweight bout here, as the highly touted Klein makes his professional debut against heavy hitter Myres.

We don’t really know what to expect from Klein in terms of knockout ability, but suffice to say, his opponent has it in droves. If this is to be fought standing up, Klein will have had to have brought his A-game, otherwise it’ll be a short painfull reminder of how tough this sport can be.

I predict a Myres KO in the first round.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) James Myres, Round 1 (TKO/KO)

Fight 4
Le Monstre 1-0-0 v Happy “Angry Hockey Player” Gilmore 1-0-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 265lbs

Two talented heavyweight strikers will duke it out here in a battle where someone will have to be scraped off of the canvas. Monstre has emphatic boxing ability and should be able to overcome the slight reach advantage of Gilmore with his movement. Gilmore is a superior wrestler and has good Muay Thai ability, though he finished his first opponent by submission.

As I feel this fight will be primarily fought standing up, I think the boxing ability of Monstre might just edge it.

KO in round one for me.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Le Monstre, Round 1 (TKO/KO)

Fight 5
Erik Striker 1-1-0 v Rauga “Lightning” Pascal 1-0-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 185lbs

The third of five middleweight fights taking place here tonight as this division stakes its claim as the hottest run in DFC right now. Striker takes on Pascal, here as two skilled boxers take on each other in what is set to be a stand-up brawl.

This prediction is really simple, I believe Striker is the more accomplished boxer, and is going to take this in the first or second round. If pascal can somehow take this, he will have shown to be very adaptable and have a lot of heart, but the smart money is on his opponent.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Eric Striker, Round 2 (TKO/KO)

Fight 6
Toby “The Arrogant Ambassador” Coleman 2-1-0 v Johnny Burma 0-0-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 205lbs

I predict this light-heavyweight bout to have fast finish, as Coleman has spent a total of 16 seconds in the two fights he has won, but has found it difficult to handle those with a superior ground game such as that which Burma possesses. Burma better have a good chin or he will be found out early in his debut, and will need to take Coleman down early, and finish him to stand a chance.

However, I think Coleman might just have the speed to finish Burma early

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Toby Coleman, Round 1 (TKO/KO)

Fight 7
Core Parkin 1-0-0 v Jon Smultz 1-2-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 185lbs

The fight records going into this bout for Smultz will be unrepresentative as to his skill as he has demonstrated good wrestling and BJJ ability in his previous fights, but has been exposed for having a weak chin.

If Parkin can take advantage of this and try and finish him early, I think he might take it, but if he makes one slip he could find himself in a vulnerable position, and then tapping out.

I give this to Smultz by submission.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Jon Smultz, Round 1 (SUB)

Fight 8
Mickey “Mouse” Mouse 1-0-0 v Jenson “Super Man” Jones 0-1-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 170lbs

Mouse has far more momentum heading into this fight than his opponent, finishing his first three opponents by submission. His opponent, lasted to the third round but was submitted by the fighter from Macedonia “Madai” who has a similar style to Mouse.

Let’s hope he learned something from this fight otherwise he’ll find himself on the end of another painful submission.

I predict Mouse takes this by submission.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Mickey Mouse, Round 1 (SUB)

Fight 9
Kyle Dunc 1-2-0 v Derrick “The Dude” James 0-2-0: 3 Rounds of 5 185lbs

These two fighters be looking to generate some kind of momentum coming into this bout as they are both coming off the back off two losses.

While Dunc is the superior wrestler, I think that is all he really excels in, whereas James has a very good Muay Thai skillset that he will be looking to take full advantage of here.
I don’t think Dunc’s advantage on the ground is enough or too vastly superior to James to make a difference, so I think James may take this, whether by submission or knockout it’s hard to say, but I think he could take it in the later rounds/

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Derrick James, Round 2 (TKO/KO)

Fight 10
Alex “Big Daddy” Smith 0-1-0 v Gabriel “Archangel” Angelo 2-1-0: 3 Rounds of 5 Minutes 265lbs

The final bout on this card is a heavyweight clash between Gabriel Angelo and Alex Smith. Both fighters have appeared to have gaping holes in their game plans in previous fights, but in the case of Angelo, he has been able to find a way to beat his opponents despite this, showing great tact and adaptability.

Smith is the superior striker and BJJ artist while “Archangel” has a superior wrestling and Muay Thai game but not by much.

Unless Angelo can figure out another way out of a fight against an opponent with a better range of skills, I can see him being put away early.

Gabe T.S. Gardner’s Prediction: (W) Alex Smith, Round 1 (TKO/KO)

Overall this card is filled top to bottom with many intriguing bouts in the second DFC Mayhem event of the evening as the fledgling promotion looks to make its presence felt here in Las Vegas, Nevada. You are not going to want to miss this one folks.
