HFC 58 Review

Fight of the Night: Krylov vs Kocak  (Called by Buster)
KO of the Night: Raykuza Maui
Sub of the Night: Ademaro Dos Anjos  (called by Buster)
Marcus Svensonn defeats Miguel Duarte  via TKO (Kick and Punches)
How about this for a first fight?  Both fighters are bleeding within the first minute of the fight, and the fight is over before the third minute.  A wicked head kick by Svensonn ended this one by setting up the (in all honesty, unneeded) flurry of strikes that ended this one.
Frank Lucas defeats Mitch Rapp via TKO (Strikes)
The bell rings, and the fighters start swinging.  Wasn't a feeling out period as within seconds Rapp lands a huge right that dropped and bloodied Lucas.  The fans on their feet, expecting another quick finish to match the first fight, were brought to a roar by the heart and determination displayed by Lucas to hang in and turn this thing around and finish Rapp at just over two minutes into the fight.
Kaoru Hanayama defeats Billy Bob  via Decision (Unanimous)
This fight was completely dominated by Hanayama, but not a fight to be enamored with.  Bob was fighting defensively, but fighting to avoid being hit, not trying to win.  Hanayama was far more active at range, clinch, and even on the ground with a massive amount of submission spamming going on.  But, when you have a dud of a fight, the person who at least tried to win will always get the nod with the judges.     Basko Goodwin defeats Stefan Muller  via Decision (Unanimous)     The fans weren't overly impressed with this fight, hearing some boos at the end, but this fight was sooooo close to changing that.  Muller had been bleeding the whole fight, Godwin picking him apart.  But to start the 3rd round, Godwin throws a single shot that drops Muller and knocked him silly.  But he couldn't, or didn't, finish or even seem to try to.  Had he stood him back up, this fight would have been over then and there.  But, it went on to the judges where Goodwin gets the win, only misses out on the hype of a big finish.
Sergey Telegin defeats Juju Baraka  via Submission (Triangle)
In a fight where Baraka was predicted to win KO of the Night, Telegin came in and showed the world that was NOT about to happen.  Telegin absolutely dominated this fight from the start and honestly, it didn't look like it was going to make it out of the first round.
Baraka landed a few shots in the first minute, though not doing anything to really jump out on the stat sheets before Telegin got his takedown shortly after the 1 minute mark.  A few submission attempts and some serious hugging going on by Juju to get this fight out of the first round.  The second, however, started with a quick takedown and the sub spamming began.  Baraka did get a nice reversal in there, but to no avail as he was tapping  shortly over two minutes into the 2nd round due to a triangle choke.
Raykuza Maui defeats Lev Davidovitch Bronstein  via KO (Punch)
Lev has had a very successful career.  He's went toe to toe with Massive Wanker and held his own, and has some championship history under his belt to boot.  To many, Bronstein was a heavy favorite going into this fight.  Maui has all the skills in the world, a very talented fighter by all measures and with a 6-4 record, his career has been considered a disappointment to this point.  Since joining HFC, Maui has gone 1-2 with two strait losses.  That was, until now..
Maui was looking for blood from the start and cut Bronstein with the very first strike of the fight.  Not expecting the amount of aggression, Bronstein took the fight into the clinch to collect his thoughts, but broke it moments later.  Just as the  click hit one minute into the fight, Maui dropped Bronstein with a beautiful hook and just stood there admiring his work.  Allowing Bronstein to stand back up, with a grin in his eye, Maui landed another picture perfect hook that dropped Bronstein, out cold before hitting the ground.
Wesley Taurus defeats Luis Pinto  via Decision (Unanimous)
Our first fight of the main card put striker Wesley Taurus against grappler Pinto against each other.  Before the first minute, Pinto landed the takedown and we all though this was over, but some great defensive grappling by Taurus and the ref stood the fight up nearly a minute later.  Taurus has been known to cut easily, but for much of his career has not been cut, but that changed as he was bleeding by the end of the first round.      The second round was just Taurus picking apart Pinto's striking defense, but round three we saw another takedown and again, expecting to see this one end after a flurry of submission attempts by Pinto, but Taurus managed to get free and back to his feet.   Taurus was rocked to end that final round, but managed to hang on until the final bell and outside of the third round, Taurus looked to have the edge in the fight.  The judges agreed and a still groggy Taurus raised his hands in victory.
David Dilbrandt defeats Jewel Diaz  via Decision (Split)
This fight almost happened back in the days of SMASH, but Diaz, under former management, jumped ship and joined MMMA.  Who could have predicted the future to know that SMASH, HFC, and MMMA are all one and the same now, and now we got to see this fight, at last.  Diaz has been the dominant fighter throughout his career, but Dilbrandt is right there on his heels with an equally impressive record.       In the first round, Diaz countered into a takedown which put him in position to do damage the way he likes with his GnP.  Some good ground defense by Dilbrandt and even a submission attempt thrown in for good measure to end the 1st round.       In the second, it took a few attempts but, Diaz managed to get the fight to the ground again and looked to enforce his will, but more excellent defense displayed by Dilbrandt to close out the round.
Finally, a change of pace as the third... oh wait, it happened again, Diaz took the fight down (twice) but was unable to break through the excellent defense displayed by Dilbrandt.  The fight went to the judges, who awarded a split decision to David Dilbrandt.
Boris Krylov defeats Demir Kocak  via TKO (Kick & Punches)
And the moment the Heavyweight Division has been waiting for, the rubber match for the belt between Krylov and Kocak.  Krylov won the belt from Kocak several months ago, while Kocak earned it back more recently.  Plagued by doctor stoppages, Krylov displayed some heart and determination as he got his revenge and won back his belt with an outstanding victory over Krylov via TKO in the 3rd round.
The fight started as many feared, and within seconds, Krylov was bleeding, but he returned the favor in the final seconds opening up a cut on Kocak.  More back and forth in the 2nd round, and by way of strikes, appeared that Kocak was winning both rounds so far on the judges score cards.  At one minute into the 3rd, well.. let's just pass it off to the film.
"The fighters circle, before Krylov throws a beautiful high kick that crashes into Kocak's neck, sending him stumbling to the floor! Krylov lands more strikes and forces a referee stoppage! That one ended in an instant!"     Ademaro Dos Anjos defeats Slash Slingin  via Submission (Triangle)     ADA jumped right into the contender mix with his first fight at 170 as he took on Slash Slingin to determine the next title contender.  Slingin is a grappler, made his career on the ground with some of the best at 170, but ADA put the 170 on alert with his 2 minute victory here.
A quick takedown from Slash and then ADA went to work.
"Slingin is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Dos Anjos has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Slingin is looking to defend but Dos Anjos has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Slingin! Dos Anjos pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Slingin taps out and this one is all over!"
