TR03 - New Year, New Thief

Event Preview: TR03: New Year, New Thief
Thibodeaux's Rogues
2021-12-29, The Island, Wild Bob's Bar - The Island
Author:Dakota Thibodeaux

 Main Event

265 lbs

Brandon Grace (1-0) vs. Dustin "Bite Me" Barkley (1-0)

The main event of the evening features two undefeated fighters who made their professional debut earlier this month. Both men have finished their opponent inside the first round, Grace via Submission and Barkley via KO. Brandon Grace, while quite inexperienced in stand-up combat sports, is still a very dangerous fighter who has spent years in his hometown of New York practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. On the other side we have the Canadian Dustin Barkley who has dismissed his opponent's brown belt in BJJ, saying in a recent interview that if Grace takes him down, he will simply ‘stand up’. Possessing power, speed, and precision, Barkley's punches and kicks are no joke and I can tell you that if his opponent decides to stand with him, it will only be a matter of time before he goes to sleep.

Co-Main Event

170 lbs

Matth Thibodeaux (1-0) vs. Carbone "Asbestos" Gotto (1-0)

In the co-main event we have two welterweight fighters who just started their career, both passed their first test with flying colors. The second test comes in the form of this fight which will show us which of these men truly wants to be a fighter. Thibodeaux, a primarily Muay Thai fighter from Burma is on many MMA expert's radars as someone who has the potential to go far in the fight game. ‘Excellent Thai Boxer’, ‘strong work ethic’, ‘has a solid ground game foundation’, were the words used to describe him by his coaches over at HB Training center. His opponent, Bahrain's Carbone Gotto, is a fighter with a basic understanding of stand-up fighting, and while his technique is not as developed, he is a man full of determination who is willing to fight any way needed to get his hand raised. A former high school wrestler, many think he will utilize his wrestling to get in close and control the fight from there.

205 lbs

Kil Bon Hwa (0-0) vs. Jerome Smif (1-0)

Fighting out of South Korea, a country which we rarely see being represented in the cage is Kil Bon Hwa! Ready to make his debut in the 205 division, Hwa told us to watch out for his hands on December 29th. The American Jerome Smif has yet to say anything at all about his upcoming fight. We got the impression Smif does his talking inside the cage. A clinch fighting specialist, Smif will want to clinch up and pummel Hwa from there with his rich arsenal of punches. This is going to be one of those fights where the winner will be decided by the one who manages to impose their style.

155 lbs

Bradley Lemons (1-0) vs. Alex "Island Boy" Venegas (0-1)

Thibodeaux's Rogues lightweight division brings us a fight between men from different parts of the world, Bradley Lemons from Austria and Alex Venegas from the Central African Republic. A well-respected boxer from Austria, Venegas makes the crowd go wild every time he lands a punch. Standing and banging is surely his forte, but do not underestimate his wrestling as he has trained with a lot of renowned names before he came to The Island to make his fortune. Standing across him on Wednesday evening will be Alex “Island Boy” Venegas, a man you don’t want between your legs. A fighter with one of the best wrestling credentials on The Island, his game plan is no secret to anyone. He will want this fight on the ground ASAP where he is sure to dominate. In his debut we saw him have somewhat of a suspect chin, he will have to be wary of his opponent's counter striking when shooting in for a takedown.

265 lbs

Sumdem Bingbong (1-0) vs. Adam Cole "Bay Bay" (0-0)

Armenia's Sumdem Bingbong faces the American Adam Cole in this heavyweight fight scheduled for three five-minute rounds. An exceptional wrestler, Bingbong has been training since the day he was born. After watching the current #1 Pound For Pound fighter Kilo "Bloodbath" Maluga beat Iain Tower for the SYN heavyweight title a few years ago, he decided to make MMA his life. The very next day he joined a local BJJ gym where after some time he earned his blue belt. An American manager, Jerry Cane who was on a tourist trip in Armenia took notice of Bingbong when he fractured a guy's skull with an elbow in his 5th Amateur MMA fight. Ever since that, he has been under Cane’s care. Now on Island, Bingbong vows to beat anyone who stands in his way with his relentless takedowns and brutal ground and pound. Adam Cole, a regional pro-wrestler-turned mixed martial artist will try to make his opponent's MMA journey short-lived. The shorter but bigger man, Cole will want to keep this one standing where he can showcase his superior striking. His best bet to win is to stay out of Bingbongs reach and look for that one big shot that's gonna turn the lights off.
