BELLICOSE (375+)

Author:Outlaw Bleak

Dan Kolov (1-0)  vs  Youta Himura (3-7)

Outlaw - Kolov is coming off a victory in his CDFC debut last fight, but now he steps up into the Bellicose cage where it’s a whole new jungle.  His win over Bo Hell showed he had some power behind those punches as he ended that fight in 36 seconds.  Just a testimant to his boxing skills that he will couple with his wrestling to take this fight to Himura.

Himura is on the other end of the spectrum having lost three strait fights.  He does have strong wrestling and boxing, but his best attribute is his Muay Thai.  That really hasn’t translated into the cage of late though, and he’ll have his work cut out for him against the upstart, Kolov.

Sonny - Kolov gives up the stat difference but Himura’s chin is a Xmas present on a platter. Or under the tree. Or whatever. But you get my point. Kolov better use this as a knockout steppingstone and we’ll see him in one month! Kolov KO round 1

Marcos Furriel (3-0)  vs  Stella Fella (0-1)

Outlaw - Furriel comes into this fight a perfect 3-0 in his time in Outlaw.  He’s a young gun on the roster and a prospect in the org but showcasing his skills on the main card this week where he’ll look to shine bright under the big lights.  He’s a very balanced fighter but seems to be far more versatile on the ground.

Fella lost his MMA debut against Furriel in quick fashion but hopes to turn things around with this second chance.  Honestly, I didn’t realize until just now that these two were fighting again, back-to-back, which is a complete lapse on my part.  Hopefully, it was just replacing a fighter last moment.  I do apologize for this oversight.  On the flip side, this is a huge shot for Fella to switch up his strategy and turn the tables.  Overall, his skills on the feet are far superior to that of Furriel and if he can keep this fight standing, he should be able to get an easy win.  However, as the last fight will show, if this fight goes to the ground that Fella will be in a painfully familiar situation.

Sonny - This fight may have been accidentally booked, but reeks of opportunity. Fella has everything to gain and not nearly as much to lose. Plus with technically two training camps for the same matchup you would think that they can pull the trigger and improve from his knockout lost the first time they met. Do you think, but I do not see much improvement in his wrestling and this fight will probably go the same as the first. Furriel TKO round 1

Toyotomi Ieyasu (2-2)  vs  Wilbur Ratt (3-1)

Outlaw - Ieyasu is coming into this fight looking to snap a two-fight skid.  He started strong but has had two bad losses in a row and desperately needs a win to turn things around.  His boxing skills are his strength when standing, but he shines on the ground.  He boats a black blet in BJJ along with superb wrestling which is how he picked up those first two submission wins.

His opponent, Wilbur Ratt, is 3-1 and will not be an easy win for Ieyasu.  He’s evenly matched in boxing but holds a significant advantage in his Muay Thai striking while also matching his wrestling.  However, that wrestling alone won’t save him if this fight gets on the ground as he’s only a purple belt in BJJ and will be at a huge disadvantage if he is rolling in the deep with Ieyasu.  Ratt’s last fight was won via split decision, so don’t expect him to want to let this fight go the distance if he can help it.

Sonny - Ieyasu looks to put that sexy black belt to use tomorrow night and I think with the fighter’s wrestling at the same level this fight should eventually go to the ground. This is where it will most likely be decided as well. Rat better better try and finish this fight quick because once he hits the mat he is tapping. I am liking Ieyasu to take the surprise first round sub. this fight quick because once he hits the mat he is tapping.

Scottie Tarantino (6-1)  vs  Samuel Summers (4-2)

Outlaw - Tarantino is 6-1 and somehow finds himself not in the top 10 of the rankings.  Most likely, it’s because he’s only had 1 fight under new manager and is 2-1 in Bellicose to date.  But a win over Summers could change that.  He’s not the greatest striker but makes up for that on the ground with his sensational wrestling.  He’ll look to use that again to control this fight and keep Summers in uncomfortable positions all fight.

Summers will not go down without a fight though.  He’s an exceptional boxer who’s been working on his Muay Thai as well.  A superb wrestler who has been using his wrestling to help him keep the fight standing, but it won’t be enough to help him control the fight if it goes to the ground so expect him to want to keep this fight standing at all costs.

Sonny - Summers definitely been working on the stand up and it shows. Unfortunately, with Tarantino‘s dominant wrestling game I feel all focus they have been better guided to take down defense and general wrestling abilities. Could be the game plan though and Summers could just be looking for the KO instead of grinding out a takedown defense of victory. Even still, I think Tarantino will flex that ground control for the Decision victory.

Leonid Zakharov (4-2)  vs  Chris Tamburello (6-5)

Outlaw - Mr. Steroid himself, Zakharov snaped his 2-fight skid last time out with a huge TKO victory over Nunes.  He’s a sensational boxer with excellent Muay Thai skills making him a great striker.  He’s also developed an exceptional wrestling game which helps him control the action in the clinch or to help keeping it standing.  This fight will be very even, so I fully expect these two to stand and bang and see who the last man standing is.

Tamburello is 6-5 and in a very similar situation in his last 3 fights having just snapped a two-fight skid with a TKO victory over Sup in his last outing.  With exceptional boxing and great Muay Thai skills, along with exceptional wrestling, he matches up almost perfectly with Zakharov, which will make this a very interesting fight to watch.

Sonny - Wait, Zakharov is fighting someone? As soon as he walked out for the intro I may or may not have got lost in the vast landscape of the chiseled architecture on his chest and shoulders. Ok I’m back. Zakharov is indeed fighting Chris "CT" Tamburello and this should be quite the matchup! Tamburello can keep up with Zakharov  everywhere and only gives the slightest edge away in boxing. However Tamburello does lug around a very suspect chin and I think Z‘s KO power will hone in on this advantage. Early KO round 1 for Zakharov.

(9) Dontae Gutierrez (3-1)  vs  (4) Isopaa Mfer (5-0)

Outlaw - Gutierrez is a young up and comer who was impressive in his Bellicose debut with a 1-minute submission over Yu.  While he’s got a respectable standing game, he’s an assassin on the ground having won all three of his victories by submission using his brown belt in BJJ.

Across from him will be a very difficult test as Isopaa Mfer matches up with him perfectly on the ground.  Also being a brown belt, and possibly even a slightly better wrestler, this will be a very good fight between both fighters.  The difference in this fight may actually come by way of the standing game where Mfer has a significant striking advantage.  He may not want to rush into the ground fight while having this advantage, but no doubt Gutierrez will look to push it to the ground as quickly as possible to level the playing field.

Sonny - Gutierrez is certainly a highly specialized ground fighter and looks forward to showcasing his skills this Friday night. His opponent Mfer though needs no introduction. Mfer has that perfect 5-0 record and is highly successful at winning the fight wherever it goes. He doesn’t need you control the position he just dominates wherever his opponent dares take it. I may be buying a round of beer later for this choice, but I am going to go with Gutierrez here as Mfer does not seem to offer much on his TDD and Gutierrez has a more pure ground game. Quick takedowns and advancing position from the top is the key for Gutierrez to grind out his decision victory.

(4) Paddy Dimblett (7-0)  vs  (6) Shingen Takeda (9-3)

Outlaw - Dimblett is a perfect 7-0 and has done it entirely on the ground via submissions.  His brown belt in BJJ is becoming legendary and he will look to continue that against Takeda who’s got a reputation as being a legend on the ground himself.  Takeda may want to keep this fight standing for a while where he’s got a significant advantage, but no doubt this fight will end up on the ground at one point or another.

Takeda is not only a black belt in BJJ and a remarkable wrestler, he’s also a remarkable boxer and may look to capitalize on that advantage in this fight.  But all 9 of his victories have come via submission and it would be a personal accomplishment to get #10 against a renowned submission artist.

Sonny - Brown belt Paddy Dimblett has 7 subs to his name. All his wins have come by submission in fact. Impressive? Of course! Until you look at his opponent Takeda who offers nine subs on his record and a black belt to back them.  What I think will make the five difference here is Takeda actually has a very impressive takedown defense rate at 91% successfull. If Dimblett can’t take the fight to the ground ASAP he is in for a nasty evening. I see Takeda wearing out Dimblett on the feet and grinding out a stand up decision victory.

(3) Alexander Kuznetsov (6-2)  vs  Cyborg Reyes (6-4)

Outlaw - Kuznetsov is an impressive specimen.  Coming in at 6-2 riding a 2-fight win streak, Kuznetsov is a hell of a striker in the middleweight division.  His sensational boxing is his bread and butter, but he’s a very accomplished Muay Thai and Wrestling artist.  His BJJ is a bit lacking, but it’s never been his strong point and he’s been able to mask it this point into his career with solid wrestling and the ability to end a fight in a flash.

Across the cage from him stands Cyborg Reyes.  Reyes has had some great success in his career but has lost 3 of his last 4 fights and needs to bounce back something awful.  He does have a solid stand-up game and some legit wrestling, but he appears to be overmatched in this fight against Kuznetsov.  Reyes can pack a punch and therefor has a punches chance at a win, but he’ll be fighting an uphill battle and will need to install an excellent gameplan to have a legit chance at winning this fight.

Sonny - Kuznetsov and Reyes are both specialists in providing excitement to Bellicose fans. PhDs in violence and a thirst for blood is why these fighter ARE Bellicose! Now to the banging... my man Reyes has a hell of a heart and powerful hands. Kuznetsov brings in a granite chin insurance policy to the fight. When you notice Kuznetsov also enjoys the boxing advantage in this fight I think he may rely on his granite and coast to a decision victory for a surprise change to his usual gameplan. Reyes will not be having this though so look for him to try and take Kuznetsov’s head off early. End the end I have to legally make picks - so Kuznetsov it is. Decision.

(3) Davante Dunbar (6-2)  vs  (2) James Carter (7-2)

Outlaw - Dunbar, the number 3 contender in the division faces off against Carter who’s the #2 contender in the division.  In all likelihood, the winner of this fight will be the #1 contender looking for a title shot next month as the champ will be squaring off against the #1 contender in the coming weeks.  Dunbar has wonderful boxing and some strong Muay Thai skills, and while he’s a decent wrestler, his bred and butter is his brown belt in BJJ that he’s used to get 4 submission wins to date.

His opponent, Carter, will be no easy task.  With an impressive striking game focused on his Muay Thai attack, he’s riding a 2-fight win streak and has won 6 of his 6 fights in Bellicose.  He may not have an answer for Dunbar’s brown belt, but if this fight stays standing then he’ll be in good shape to score a win either by KO with some countering or possibly looking to outscore his opponent from range.

Sonny - Man oh man. I have to admit I have been drooling at this matchup for weeks. Davante Dunbar is my dude! He is looking to bounce right back after a devastating title loss to the great Rak Boonliang in late April. What is not talked about often enough though is what an outstanding performance Dunbar put on that night! He actually had the champ rocked early in the fight before Rak was able to bounce back to save his belt. Dunbar is no slouch. Across from him and doing weird things with his nipples is the one and only James Carter. James comes out of the no bullshit Runt camp so you know he goes into every fight absolutely terrified to lose because job security is not strong over there.

I think the applicable differences in this fight are Carter’s prominent Muay Thai skills as well as his wrestling advantage. Combined with his granite chin this should allow him to keep the fight where he wants to work. Another fight I really don’t want to pick but since I have to pull the trigger... James Carter via Decision.

 Main Event

Light Heavyweight Title Fight

(C) Hole Reemer (8-1)  vs  (1) Kurki Potku (6-0)

Outlaw - And finally, our main event!  With the light heavyweight title on the line, this fight is worth the main event billing and one I can’t wait to watch.  Reemer has dominated the division having won 8 fights in a row and mowing down everyone who’s stood in front of him since joining Bellicose.  His skill set is well balanced, and his wrestling is what stands out in his skill set, but he’s got some sneaky good skills that opponents do not expect.  Up next will be a tough opponent in Potku who hasn’t lost a fight in his professional career.

Potku is on an impressive run himself.  He’s undefeated and like the champ, hasn’t lost a fight yet not only in Bellicose, but in his career.  He’s displayed some amazing power as he’s had 4 KO finishes and a TKO finish to date leaving only one fight to the judges.  His striking skills are remarkable, and his wrestling is sensational and stacks up very well with Reemer.  Potku may be the greatest threat to Reemer’s throne to date and we will have an epic fight on our hands that I can’t wait to tune into.

Sonny - M-M-M-Main Event Time! Our own legendary Nazi beater Hole Reemer takes on a legend in the making Kurki Potku! Outlaw you are right about Potku - he is on an absolute tear as he has built a perfect 6-0 but what I love to see is the 5 KOs included. Reemer is so deceivingly good though it hurts. He puts together some amazing gameplans to focus on his strengths while hiding his weaknesses. Friday night should be no different as Reemer will no doubt look for a takedown within the first minute making his intentions clear. What I feel is an interesting aspect of this fight is Potku does occasionally take the fight to the ground but mainly uses that as a tool to break clinch and when he is on the ground he is purely a wet blanket but on top and keeps his guard closed on the bottom. This would play right into Reemer’s gameplan as he loves to, well, reem people from dominant position. I’m looking for this to go to the distance. At the end of 25 minutes I’m picking it will be... and STILL light heavyweight champion. - Hole Reemer!
