The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
StPierre defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Smith.
StPierre moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but StPierre avoids it really well and circles away.

StPierre pushes Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith goes for a takedown attempt but StPierre pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Georges StPierre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dante Smith.
Smith avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but StPierre is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
