The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smith throws a hook but Rogers avoids it easily.
Smith throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Rogers tries to clinch up but Smith circles away and keeps his distance.

and Smith cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rogers wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Rogers is keeping the position.
Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Rogers is looking to stand up but Smith isn't so interested in that idea.
Smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Rogers's guard.

Smith is looking to take a break and control but Rogers is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rogers is trying to stand up here but Smith is controlling him well.
Smith seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rogers does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Smith is taking a breather. Rogers says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Noel Smith.
Smith ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Rogers moves away.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rogers closes the distance looking to clinch
and Smith connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

and Smith counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Rogers thinking.
Smith tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Rogers was well out of range. Poor timing from Smith.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith.
Smith taking a break here but Rogers is having none of it and regains half guard.
Smith winds up and cracks Rogers with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Smith prevents Rogers from standing back up.
Smith thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Rogers to regain full guard.

Smith stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rogers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rogers wants to stand but Smith is controlling the position.

Smith is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Rogers is keeping the position.
Rogers is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Smith throwing strikes but missing.
Smith pushes down on Rogers's leg and manages to get into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Smith counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
A big shot lands for Smith! That's hurt Rogers! Will he recover? Smith fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
