McGee shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Merengue pinned against the cage. Merengue gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Merengue cracks the inside of McGee's front leg.
Merengue keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Merengue throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Merengue lands a monster head kick that reverborates around the arena! The crowd goes wild as McGee crumples to the floor! Merengue milks the crowd's applause and if that isn't knockout of the night, I will be very surprised!

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doug Hoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trent Browster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Doug Hoo had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 266.4lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Hoo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Browster looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Browster is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Browster tries to bench press Hoo off him but Hoo keeps the position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Browster can do anything to dispel that myth.
Browster is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hoo connects with a decent elbow.
Hoo scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Browster to see if he's OK.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvares looks for a takedown but Slicenikov sprawls well.
Alvares fails with the takedown.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Alvares.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shoot Alvares. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Alvares tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slicenikov swivels and escapes.
No luck for Alvares with that takedown attempt.

Slicenikov gets a takedown into half guard.
Alvares regains full guard. Nicely done.
Alvares throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Slicenikov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Alvares. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Slicenikov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Alvares has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Slicenikov decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Alvares, up you get!
Alvares shoots and misses

and Slicenikov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Alvares is breathing heavily.
Alvares trying to keep a closed guard but Slicenikov is proving a slippery customer.

Slicenikov stands and steps away. Alvares gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Slicenikov takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

and Slicenikov counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Alvares is rocked!

Slicenikov measures up his opponent and throws a superman punch that connects to the jaw! Down goes Alvares! The ref steps in, and that's the ball game folks!
