The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Rua or perhaps it was just good defense by Pontes which made him look bad.
Rua tries for a takedown but Pontes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Pontes gets caught flat footed, as Rua shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Rua knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pontes on the ground.

These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rickson Silva.
