The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West throws a right and a left that Ape avoids nicely.
Ape throws a series of punches but West moves out of range.
West waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Ape.

West throws a hook but Ape blocks it.
Ape keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

It looks like Randy West has been cut.
Ape steps into range and cracks West with a monster punch that buckles his knees! West flops backwards and Ape dives into his guard looking to finish!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
West looking for a sweep. Not yet West, not yet.
West manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ape manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

West throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Ape knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for West on the ground.

West jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Ape is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Ape and West has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
West tries to advance to mount but Ape instead regains half guard.

West is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ape defends it well.
Ape is trying to stand up here but West is controlling him well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

West is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ape doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time West.
West missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

West looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
West not landing any meaningful shots this time.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ape lands with a big right hook that stumbles West - he's out on his feet here! Ape follows up with another monster hook that separates West from consciousness! West falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Ape stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.
