The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
souza throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Barreto's waist but Barreto gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing souza off to one side.

souza closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Barreto to the mat! Barreto manages to get full guard.

souza drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and souza jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

souza postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Barreto is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of souza, into his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barreto thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

souza had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Barreto is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. souza Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Barreto's back instead.
souza looks gassed!

souza is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Barreto knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Barreto for a finish.
