Undercard bout

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Pepper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Danny Robida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Robida comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Walk kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Mikey Pepper could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Danny Robida's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mikey Pepper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Danny Robida!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Alyssa Summers and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pepper instigates a clinch.

Pepper tightens his grip and picks Robida up, before dumping him to the ground. Robida manages to land in guard.

Pepper stands and steps away. Robida gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
The fight stays on the outside here - Robida looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Robida is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Pepper's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Pepper shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Robida is trying to defend but Pepper finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Robida is bucking up trying to escape but Pepper cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pepper wants to control the pace but Robida is squirming around nicely.
Robida's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

North comes to the cage accompanied by 'Mr. Roboto' by Styx. Freddy Kingsley told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Kingsley throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around North's waist but North gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kingsley off to one side.

North explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts North, as that shot connected.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Kingsley crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from North - the referee stops the clock and Kingsley gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says North. Kingsley manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paredao looks to land a left hand but Cherry moved out of range nicely.

Cherry goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Paredao turns into him and now he's in Cherry's guard.
Cherry is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Cherry is looking for a triangle but Paredao pushes his legs off easily.
Cherry has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Paredao chips away with some ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Paredao's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Don Cherry dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Paredao is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cherry.

Cherry escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nice straight punches there by Cherry. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Cherry.
Paredao slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Paredao throws a lazy right hand but Cherry sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cherry moves in looking to clinch but Paredao pushes him off.
Paredao moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

It looks like Don Cherry has been cut.
Don Cherry is winning the standup battle so far.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
