Mason tries to clinch up.

Mason fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Marshall Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Steele decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Steele bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Mason has his takedown stuffed

and Steele counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Steele drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Steele jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Mason has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Steele postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mason is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Steele, into his guard.

Mason decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Steele, up you get!

Steele goes for an armbar but Mason turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Mason.

Steele has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mason can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mason lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Steele circles away quickly and effectively.
