The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bat looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bat connects with a nice short shot to Bija's temple.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jordan Bija will probably get the nod.

and Hitter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

McSofterson clinches up with Hitter and pushes him back against the ropes.
McSofterson cracks Hitter with a nice body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McSofterson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and McSofterson counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McSofterson.

McSofterson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

McSofterson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McSofterson lands in his opponent's guard.

Hitter with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling McSofterson to score with a decent uppercut.

McSofterson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Hitter tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. McSofterson is in Hitter's guard.

McSofterson gets to his feet - Hitter follows without any prompting.

McSofterson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

McSofterson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Hitter for as long as he can get away with.
McSofterson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
