Buckles throws a series of punches but Costa avoids them all with ease.

and Costa counters with a left and a right that stings Buckles.

Nice defenses there by Costa.
Costa fails in his attempt to clinch.

and Buckles cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Costa closes this distance looking for a takedown but Buckles circles away.
Costa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Costa wants it to stay on the feet.
A looping hook to the body misses from Buckles. Costa does a little dance to reset his feet.
Buckles has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Costa finds it's way round the side to connect with Buckles's head.
Buckles misses with a few strikes there.
Costa closes the distance but Buckles moves to the side

and Buckles counters with a single leg into guard. Costa didn't expect that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Buckles drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Buckles seems to have locked his on tight now - Costa screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Buckles, as he picks up the win!

The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kramer misses with a body shot
and Staal counters with a low kick, right behind Kramer 's knee.
Staal throws a leg kick but Kramer sees it coming and moves out of range.
Staal misses with an uppercut

and Kramer counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kramer.
Kramer might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kramer works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Kramer is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Staal keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Kramer drops an elbow to the side of Staal's head.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Kramer in particular looking to stall.

Kramer thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kramer is pressing down on Staal's thigh, looking to free his foot. Staal is holding on for now.
Kramer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kramer seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Staal is not content to let Kramer control the position.
Staal pushes Kramer off looking to stand but Kramer dives back in and keeps control.
Kramer tries to pass the half guard into mount. Staal knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Staal wants to get back to full guard.
Kramer not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Kramer seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Staal is holding on to half guard well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kramer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Staal's head.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kramer will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Staal counters with a nice uppercut.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Kramer dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

It looks like John Kramer has been cut.
Staal dodges the punch combination from Kramer.
Staal keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
A low kick from Kramer misses
and Staal makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Kramer tries to keep at a distance but Staal has taken the fight into the clinch.
Staal lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Kramer takes a knee to the side of the body.
Staal is pressed up against the cage. Kramer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Staal down to the mat. Staal avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Staal feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Kramer's calf.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Staal digs a good hook to Kramer's body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kramer with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Staal to score with a decent uppercut.

Staal lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Staal feints and then cracks Kramer's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kramer down.
Staal throws a head kick that misses.
Kramer throws an off balance right hand
and Staal makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Kramer takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

John Kramer's cut is getting worse.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Both fighters circling a little - Staal finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Staal tries a head kick but it misses.
Good leg kick by Staal there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Staal bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Staal lands a left and a right that send Kramer crashing to the mat, dazed. Staal thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Kramer is rocked!

John Kramer's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Staal feints a jab and as Kramer dips his head, Staal unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Kramer right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Kramer falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Staal smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). John Staal! John Staal retains his heavyweight title!
