That was a close second round but I would say that Xander Arapeta will probably get the nod.

Gunn comes to the cage accompanied by Highway of Heros-The Trews. Silva has chosen Kashmir as his entrance music. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shogun Silva!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Donatello Bradman and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Gunn or perhaps it was just good defense by Silva which made him look bad.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Silva, right into the meat.
Silva lands with an overhand left.

It looks like Winston Gunn has been cut.
Silva misses with a shot to the body

and Gunn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Silva's guard now.
Silva trying to keep a closed guard but Gunn is proving a slippery customer.
Gunn loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Silva wants to sweep here but Gunn controlling him for the moment.

Shogun Silva has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Silva rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Gunn counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Silva can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gunn throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Silva works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Silva wants to improve his position but instead Gunn has moved into half guard.
Gunn is trying to control the action in half guard but Silva is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Gunn is pressing down on Silva's thigh, looking to free his foot. Silva is holding on for now.

Silva is trying to maintain the position but Gunn is very close to passing his half guard.

Winston Gunn has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Silva moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Silva looks to land a right hand but Gunn moved out of range.
Silva feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gunn's calf.
Gunn takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Gunn tries to clinch
and Silva counters with a body kick that stops Gunn in his tracks momentarily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Silva.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice cross by Silva.
Gunn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Silva as he jumps to the side.
Gunn shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva circles away from the clinch attempt
and Silva counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Silva buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
A left lands for Silva.
Gunn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Silva manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gunn shoots in but Silva avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Winston Gunn. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Gunn fails to land the takedown.
Shogun Silva seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Silva throws a wild body kick that Gunn sees coming a mile off.
Silva tries a head kick but it misses.

Gunn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Silva did well to prevent Gunn getting side control.

Gunn wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Gunn is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Silva is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Winston Gunn has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Silva throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
The crowd cheers as Gunn lands an impressive looking overhand right. Silva doesn't seem phased though.
Silva misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gunn.
Gunn has his takedown stuffed
enabling Silva to counter with a crisp jab.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shogun Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Gunn checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Silva tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gunn was well out of range. Poor timing from Silva.
Gunn darts in trying to clinch
and Silva counters with a slapping leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Silva connects with an inside leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gunn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Silva sprawls well. Silva wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Gunn gets slowly back to his feet.
Silva throws the left hand but Gunn avoids the punch easily.
Gunn on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

Silva misses with an uppercut

and Gunn counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Gunn wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Winston Gunn just wasn't active enough.
Gunn fails to land the takedown.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva throws an off balance right hand

and Gunn counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Silva's guard now.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Gunn.

Silva throws a lazy uppercut

and Gunn counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Gunn.
Winston Gunn has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
