The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dengel throws a head kick but Maia moves out of range.
Dengel misses with a wild body shot.

Dengel shoots in looking for a takedown but Maia manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Dengel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Maia fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Maia takes a swing at Dengel's ribcage but misses.
Dengel shoots in for a takedown but Maia shows good takedown defense.

Dengel closes the distance and pushes Maia back into the ropes.
Dengel pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the ropes.
Maia looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Dengel lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Dengel has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Maia is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dengel.

Maia decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dengel to his feet.
Dengel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dengel dives in and grabs Maia's left leg, looking for a takedown. Maia pushes down on Dengel's head and hops out.
Damien Maia has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wells Dengel.

Maia lands with an uppercut that bounces Dengel off the ropes and back into range.
Maia wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Both fighters circle each other, looking for something big. Maia moves in and throws an overhand right. That hurt Dengel! Maia continues to tee off on Dengel, landing with a left and a right! Maia connects with a right hand that leaves Dengel sleeping against the ropes! What a finish by Maia!
