Tomas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Tomas is working for a kimura but Montoya is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Montoya tries to roll over but Tomas keeps him under control.
Montoya really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Tomas feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Torres seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Barney Rubble is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Torres wants to control from the top but Rubble keeps moving.
Torres has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Josh Torres wasn't active enough on the ground.

Torres closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rubble did well to prevent Torres getting side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rubble is not content to let Torres control the position.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Barney Rubble.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rubble, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Kamenov's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Atmosphere - Legends. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Asai's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Kamenov gets caught napping as Asai dives in and scores a takedown. Kamenov manages to retain guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Asai avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Asai stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kamenov swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Asai is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Kamenov has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Asai is looking to defend but Kamenov has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Asai! Kamenov pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Asai taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Grisha Kamenov!

Melanko throws a lazy right hand but Cygnus sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cygnus lands with a slapping head kick.

It looks like Jay Melanko has been cut.

Cygnus closes the distance and clinches.
Cygnus tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Cygnus comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Melanko is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Cygnus gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Cygnus pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Melanko just misses with a punch to the body.
Melanko throws a series of punches but Cygnus avoids them all with ease.
Melanko circles away from the clinch attempt.
Cygnus is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Cygnus tries to clinch but Melanko is having none of it.
Cygnus tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Melanko paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Vismund Cygnus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cygnus shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Melanko but Melanko pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Oooooh!!! Melanko has knocked Cygnus down with a huge combo! Melanko steps away and waves a wobbly Cygnus back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

It looks like Vismund Cygnus has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cygnus drops his hands for a split second and Melanko immediately capitalizes on the opportunity by smashing a powerful hook into Cygnus face, sending his mouthguard sailing through the air, much to the delight of the crowd. Melanko follows up with a right hand that knocks Cygnus into next week. He's out cold and this fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jay Melanko!

After winning the bout, Jay Melanko thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
