The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sobral shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Manella makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Manella feints and then cracks Sobral's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Sobral down.
Sobral throws a looping overhand right but Manella ducks down to avoid it.
Manella jabs Sobral right on the nose. Sobral blinks but takes it well.
A swing and a miss from Manella.
Sobral throws a right and a left that Manella avoids nicely.
Manella looks to land a body kick but Sobral moved away.
A good leg kick by Manella.
Sobral takes one to the chin there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A looping hook to the body misses from Sobral. Manella does a little dance to reset his feet.

Manella bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Sobral moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Sobral throws a hook to the side of Manella's head but Manella sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Manella keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Sobral gets the takedown into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Manella can do anything to dispel that myth.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Manella gets back to half guard.
Sobral wants to pass to mount but Manella is defending the position.
Sobral is trying to control the action in half guard but Manella is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Manella feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Sobral sprawling to the canvas! Sobral rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Manella finish him?!
Oh Sobral is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Manella fakes the body blow, causing Sobral to drop his hands! Left hook to the temple! Sobral goes stiff, and falls face first into the mat. Goodnight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Sal Manella! Sal Manella retains his lightweight title!
