Laine grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Pawn takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Laine cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Alves throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Miike stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Alves lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Miike fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Alves to the ground. Miike is now in Alves's guard.
Miike would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Alves is adopting a defensive guard.

Alves has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Miike can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Miike gets to his feet - Alves follows without any prompting.
Miike takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Alves lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Miike throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Alves counters with a right hand to the body.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Alves gets caught napping as Miike dives in and scores a takedown. Alves manages to retain guard.

Alves controls Miike momentarily but Miike frees himself.
Miike is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Alves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
