and Mamute counters with a series of strikes that practically lifts Johnson off his feet! He tumbles backwards, his head bouncing off the mat - Mamute follows up with more strikes before the ref can step in but Johnson was out before he hit the floor.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meridius throws a hook but Slayer blocks it.
Slayer takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Slayer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Meridius paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Slayer wants to clinch up but Meridius keeps it at a distance.
Meridius lands a nice looking body shot.
Meridius circles away from the clinch attempt.
Slayer tries to close the distance and clinch but Meridius swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Meridius throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Meridius slips a jab and a cross from Slayer.
Slayer fails in his attempt to clinch.
Slayer tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Meridius paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Slayer has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Meridius finds it's way round the side to connect with Slayer's head.
Slayer cracks Meridius with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Meridius lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Slayer circles away quickly and effectively.
A chopping leg kick lands by Meridius.
Meridius throws a head kick but Slayer moves out of range.
Meridius throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Slayer misses with a wild combination.

Slayer fails with an attempt to clinch.
Meridius misses with a low kick as Slayer jumps back.
Meridius throws a wild body kick that Slayer sees coming a mile off.
Slayer tries to close the distance and clinch but Meridius swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Meridius lands with a slapping head kick.

Slayer instigates a clinch.
Meridius avoids a wild elbow strike from Slayer.
Slayer avoiding damage.
Slayer lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Meridius tries to break the clinch but Slayer is controlling the position.
Slayer misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Slayer misses with a punch on the inside.
Meridius blocks the elbow strike.
Meridius missing with knees to the body.

Meridius escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Meridius clobbers Slayer with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Slayer is rocked!
Meridius drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Slayer's head, knocking him out cold! Meridius is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Maximus Meridius!
