The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mexico swings for the body but Akiyama moves out of range.
Akiyama tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Mexico counters with a stiff right hand.
Mexico swats away the attempt to clinch by Akiyama.
Akiyama wants to clinch but Mexico slips to the side
and Mexico counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Mexico looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Akiyama!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Mexico misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Akiyama manages to work a leg through to get back to half guard here. Good work there by Akiyama, under a barage of strikes from Mexico.

Mexico tries to pass the half guard into mount. Akiyama knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mexico throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Mexico is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Akiyama!
Akiyama takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mexico loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Akiyama scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Mexico land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Mexico stands and salutes the crowd.

Nash throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Sheehan shoots in but no luck this time.
Nash swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sheehan.
Sheehan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
No joy there for Nash, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

and Nash connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justus Sheehan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Nash misses with a low kick as Sheehan jumps back.
Nash slaps away a takedown attempt from Sheehan, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nash is looking to score with low kicks.
Sheehan displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Nash throws out the jab.

Nash tries to work over Sheehan's front leg with a kick but Sheehan checks it.
Sheehan shoots in looking for a takedown but Nash manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Sheehan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nash misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sheehan.
Nash stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Nash wants it to stay on the feet.
Nash scores with a nice strike.
Nash rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sheehan moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Nash misses with a hook
and Sheehan counters with a nice leg kick.

Sheehan bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nash tries to buck Sheehan off but Sheehan is having none of it.

Nash is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sheehan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Nash is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sheehan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sheehan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nash wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Sheehan seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Nash is tapping! Wow, great finish!

In his post fight interview, Justus Sheehan started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
