Ropuia comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Here comes the pain - Slayer kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Avares slaps away a takedown attempt from Ropuia, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Avares wants to clinch up but Ropuia keeps it at a distance.
Ropuia will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ropuia closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Avares did well to prevent Ropuia getting side control.

Ropuia is working for a submission of some sort.
Avares is trying to get back to full guard.
Avares might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Avares is pressing down on Ropuia's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Avares is trying to control the position but Ropuia postures up.
Avares looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ropuia is one step ahead there.

A head kick misses from Tiberous.

Redd shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Redd was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Redd moves to the back position.

Redd is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Tiberous knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Tiberous for a finish.
Tiberous turns into Redd and is now in his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tiberous uses his free foot to push down on Redd's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Redd.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Redd is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Tiberous goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Redd is on top in guard.
Redd stands and throws Tiberous's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Redd wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Tiberous, who protects the arm well.

Redd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Redd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Redd is trying to work for a kimura but Tiberous is defending well.
Tiberous is looking for a sweep. Redd is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Tiberous is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Redd's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Redd's back!

Redd is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
This has been an exciting period of action!
