Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Connor Newman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug McMichaels (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Newman might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Flashing Lights by Kanye West. Doug McMichaels will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McMichaels throws a right hand that Newman ducks under and follows up with a left that Newman also avoids with ease.
Newman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McMichaels tries to avoid it but Newman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McMichaels to the ground. McMichaels escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McMichaels is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Newman shoots in for a double leg but McMichaels sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

McMichaels lands a big head kick that sends Newman tumbling to the mat! McMichaels takes a step backwards and waves Newman back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Connor Newman has been cut.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Newman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Newman is breathing heavily.
Newman wants to lay and pray for a moment but McMichaels keeps working.
Newman prevents McMichaels from escaping the position.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Larsson has chosen Cloud Connected as his entrance music. Karl Larsson struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 207.8lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Shields has Smith up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith wants a takedown.

Smith turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Smith tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields wants to control but Smith postures up.
Sloppy strikes there by Smith.
Smith wants to take a breather but Shields manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Smith.

Shields looking for a guillotine here but Smith defends easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smith decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Shields feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Shields drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Shields seems to have locked his on tight now - Smith screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Shields, as he picks up the win!
