A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Okazaki.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hikaru misses the shot to the body.

Fry does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Fry throws a head kick but Hikaru moves out of range.
Fry fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Hikaru is out of range.
Jack Fry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hikaru scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Fry doesn't seem bothered though.

Hikaru tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Fry manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Fry throws a leg kick but Hikaru sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Hikaru feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Fry wants to get back to his feet but Hikaru is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hikaru tries to free his leg and advance position but Fry is retaining full guard.

Hikaru thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Hikaru postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hikaru stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fry swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hikaru drops back looking for a leg! Fry is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fry manages to kick Hikaru off! Hikaru jumps back into Fry's guard.

Hikaru stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fry swivels though and keeps the full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

That was a close round but I would say that Jack Fry will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
