James shoots in looking for a takedown. Gaston tries to sprawl out of it but James keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Gaston manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gaston but Gaston pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bla shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Gracie but Gracie pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Gracie dives in and scores a takedown into Bla's guard.

Bla throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Bla looking for a sweep. Not yet Bla, not yet.
Gracie content to stall in guard here.

Bla has his foot on Gracie's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Gracie works his way back into a safe position though.
Bla trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Bla keeps moving.
Gracie won't allow Bla to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bla can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gracie controls the pace.

Bla looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Gracie passes into half guard.
Gracie sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Bla defending well though.
Bla is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.
Gracie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gracie moves into full mount! Bla won't be happy about that!
Gracie looking to control and managing it successfully.
Gracie cracks Bla with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gracie tries to control but Bla wriggling away.
Gracie lands a big shot there that rocks Bla but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gracie cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Bla is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bla tries to hold on but Gracie pushes him away.
Gracie pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

It looks like Bla Bla has been cut.
Gracie is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Bla Bla's cut is getting worse.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Bla Bla's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Asshole Gracie!
After the fight, Asshole Gracie was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
