The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lutuka tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kyunkell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lutuka somewhat.

I think Shura might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Angel. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Fat Man Mendoza!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Shura checks a leg kick.
Mendoza shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Shura pinned against the cage. Shura gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Mendoza doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Shura counters with a takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Mendoza's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mendoza tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Shura swings around for an armbar but Mendoza sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shura's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shura is on top in guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mendoza can do anything to dispel that myth.

Shura is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Mendoza has his hands on Shura's head, controlling the position.
Shura will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Shura is on top in guard.
Shura wants to control from the top but Mendoza keeps moving.

Shura is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Mendoza is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Mendoza can't keep his opponent in guard - Shura advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Shura content to control rather than advance.
Shura is looking to stall here but Mendoza recovers full guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mendoza tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shura is looking to advance position but Mendoza has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Mendoza throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Shura because Mendoza loaded up on that one.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mendoza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Shura enables Mendoza to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shura manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Shura wants to sweep but no luck.
Mendoza works over Shura with some ground and pound from guard.
Shura is trying to control the position but Mendoza postures up.
Mendoza postures up in Shura's guard and throws a big left but Shura blocks it.
Mendoza is looking to work some ground and pound but Shura has wrist control.
