The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hillis's waist but Hillis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Melendez off to one side.
Hillis tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Melendez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Melendez shoots and misses
and Hillis counters with a nice low kick that buckles Melendez's knee momentarily.
Hillis wants to clinch.
Hillis shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Melendez eats them both and turns towards Hillis to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

It looks like Damien Melendez has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Melendez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hillis's waist but Hillis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Melendez off to one side.
Peyton Hillis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Damien Melendez.
