The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
VanDamme throws a low kick but Opperman moves out of range easily.
VanDamme closes the distance and clinches up with Opperman, looking for a takedown. VanDamme pushes Opperman against the cage but Opperman circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
VanDamme tries to clinch up

Opperman wants to control but VanDamme is keeping him busy.
VanDamme has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Opperman is working away from the top position though.
VanDamme is refusing to be controlled, as Opperman sits in half guard.

Opperman is looking to stall here but VanDamme recovers full guard.

Crunch! Van Staden slams his shin into Shudley's torso.
Shudley lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Van Staden tries to clinch up.
Shudley throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Shudley scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Van Staden doesn't seem bothered though.

Shudley lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Potgieter has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Potgieter misses with an elbow strike.
Davies really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
