The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Sloggett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Scalf as he avoids it easily.
Sloggett moves in looking to clinch but Scalf pushes him off.
Nice uppercut lands for Sloggett. That snapped Scalf's head back.
Sloggett wants to clinch up but Scalf keeps it at a distance.

Sloggett closes the distance and clinches.
Scalf jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sloggett walks away with a smile on his face. Scalf gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sloggett shoots in and drives through. Scalf sprawls well.
A slow jab from Sloggett misses its intended target.

Scalf shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sloggett defends it nicely.

Sloggett moves in looking to clinch but Scalf pushes him off.
Sloggett changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Scalf tries to avoid it but Sloggett manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Scalf to the ground. Scalf escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

It looks like Zack Myers has been cut.
Myers shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Coveny defends it nicely.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Myers.
Coveny punishes Myers's body with a nice straight punch.
Coveny lands a slapping body shot.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Coveny enables Myers to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Coveny manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Myers drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Coveny manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Myers has Coveny in his guard.

Coveny has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Myers is proving hard to escape from.

Myers is looking to cinch up a triangle. Coveny throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Myers's body to avoid the submission. Myers has instead reached around Coveny's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Myers arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
