The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rijkaard throws a front kick aimed at Slone's knee but Slone avoids it well.
Slone shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Rijkaard defends it nicely.
Slone shoots in for a takedown but Rijkaard shows good takedown defense.
Rijkaard misses with a head kick.
Rijkaard avoids the head kick by Slone.
Slone closes the distance and clinches up with Rijkaard, looking for a takedown. Slone pushes Rijkaard against the cage but Rijkaard circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Patrick Rijkaard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Avery Slone.

Slone darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Slone has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rijkaard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Rijkaard wants to improve his position but Slone is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Slone is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rijkaard is just riding it out for now. Slone eventually gives up the hold.

Rijkaard is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Slone jumps into side control!
Slone is looking to take a break and control but Rijkaard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Slone fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Slone is looking to work some ground and pound but Rijkaard has wrist control.
Slone stays in close to Rijkaard's body and controls the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Slone avoids the body shot from Rijkaard.
Rijkaard moves out of range as Slone throws a body kick.
Slone blocks a head kick by Rijkaard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Slone changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Rijkaard tries to avoid it but Slone manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Rijkaard to the ground. Rijkaard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rijkaard leaves Slone with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Slone throws a combination that misses
and Rijkaard counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The fighters circling - Rijkaard throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rijkaard throws a jab but it's blocked by Slone.
Slone throws a head kick that misses.
Slone misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rijkaard misses with a double jab.
Rijkaard dodges the punch combination from Slone.
Slone shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Rijkaard lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Slone circles away quickly and effectively.
Slone shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rijkaard pinned against the cage. Rijkaard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Patrick Rijkaard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Avery Slone.
Slone looks for a takedown but Rijkaard sprawls well.
Rijkaard throws a sloppy head kick and Slone moves out of range easily.

Slone shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rijkaard as he avoids it easily.
Slone throws a head kick but Rijkaard moves out of range.
Slone fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Slone shoots in and drives through. Rijkaard sprawls well.

A head kick misses from Rijkaard.
Slone looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Rijkaard is fending him off so far but Slone persists. Nope, Rijkaard circles away and we're back to standing.
Rijkaard connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Rijkaard lands a head kick. Slone smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Whack! Rijkaard lands a heavy head kick that drops Slone. The ref tackles Rijkaard to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Slone was done.

Karimi listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Belshiknolav swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Karimi takes a head kick and keeps coming.

Karimi shoots in and gets a takedown into Belshiknolav's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
This has been an exciting period of action!
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Karimi drops back looking for a leg! Belshiknolav is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Belshiknolav manages to kick Karimi off! Karimi jumps back into Belshiknolav's guard.

Karimi stands and steps away. Belshiknolav gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Karimi closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Belshiknolav did well to prevent Karimi getting side control.

Karimi decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Karimi closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Belshiknolav out cold! Belshiknolav corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.

Maximus looks to land a combination but Abukay avoids it well.
Maximus scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Abukay doesn't seem bothered though.
Abukay is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Maximus.

It looks like Apo Abukay has been cut.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Abukay.
Maximus misses with a series of wild punches.
Maximus leaves Abukay with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
TJ Maximus seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Abukay gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Maximus counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Apo Abukay. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maximus lands with a big left! Abukay is wobbled badly! Maximus comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Abukay to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.

Cena is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Cena tries to stand but Ling is controlling from the bottom.

Cena is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Cena misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ling.

Cena is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Cena winds up and cracks Ling with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Ling wants to control but Cena is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Cena landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Cena tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Ling makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Grant misses with the combination.
Patterson slips a jab and a cross from Grant.
Grant swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Patterson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Patterson cracks Grant with an uppercut from hell and Grant crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Patterson's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!

Grant is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Patterson postures up, still in guard. A huge hammer fist lands that bounces Grant's head off the mat! Grant is out! He's out! Patterson jumps to his feet and celebrates with his corner!
