The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saurus fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The fighters circling - Ortiz throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Ortiz gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Saurus to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Ortiz had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Saurus defends it easily.
Saurus is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Saurus controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Ortiz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Saurus doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Saurus manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Saurus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Damato drops Lopez with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Lopez looks back up at him and smiles so Damato waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

Like a drunk walking down the middle of the road, the inevitable face plant follows and the delayed knockout arrives. Even Santos can't help but laugh at the bizarre end to this one!

Conway avoids a punch combination nicely.

VL shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. VL showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. VL lands a nice short elbow.

Dickson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gray is fending him off so far but Dickson persists. Nope, Gray circles away and we're back to standing.
Dermot Gray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Dickson.

Dickson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dickson wants to get up but he can't break Gray's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Gray pulls Dickson in close to his closed guard and prevents Dickson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Gray manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dickson manages to get himself to full guard.

Gray is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Dickson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Gray connects with a couple of short punches.
Gray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dickson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gray throws and elbow that misses. Dickson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gray's guard. Nice move by Dickson!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dickson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Dickson wants to control from the top but Gray keeps moving.
Gray tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gray throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Gray digs a good body shot into Dickson's ribs.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Gray fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dickson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
