Maria parries the strikes from Light easily there. Light is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Maria to escape.

Light tries to advance to mount but Maria instead regains half guard.
Light sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Maria defending well though.

Light is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Light moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Maria has worked his arm free - good work by Maria!
Light wants to take a breather but Maria manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Light.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
An inside leg kick lands from Maria.
Light shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Maria sprawls well. Maria wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Light gets slowly back to his feet.
Maria takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Maria throws a head kick but Light moves out of range.

Light throws a combination that misses
and Maria counters with a nice body kick.
Bobby Light seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Light closes the distance and clinches up with Maria, looking for a takedown. Light pushes Maria against the cage but Maria circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bobby Light. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maria lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Light throws a right hand that misses
and Maria cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Light changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Maria tries to avoid it but Light manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Maria to the ground. Maria escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Light tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maria sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Light somewhat.
A head kick from Maria lands but Light takes it in his stride.

This has been an exciting period of action!

and Maria counters with a crisp one two that drops Light! Maria thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Light to his feet! Light is in big trouble!
Maria lands a big head kick that sends Light tumbling to the mat! Maria takes a step backwards and waves Light back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Light is rocked!
Light misses with a takedown attempt
and Maria counters with a massive hook, right on the button! He's out cold! Damn, that was naaaaaasty! Hopefully he'll be OK.
