We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kruger can do anything to dispel that myth.

Vargas feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Newsom sprawling to the canvas! Newsom rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Vargas finish him?!
Jordan Vargas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Newsom looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vargas is fending him off so far but Newsom persists. Nope, Vargas circles away and we're back to standing.

Vargas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Newsom manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

He turns his back on Vargas, trying to create some distance but Vargas rushes him, striking wildly and Newsom goes down! The referee tackles Vargas into the cage to end the fight! Vargas is one violent man!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dong closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dong is looking to take a break and control but Christopher is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Dong is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Christopher has escaped the position, nice work there.
Christopher is looking for a sweep.

Dong stands up and beckons Christopher to his feet.
Christopher slaps away a takedown attempt from Dong, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Dong swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Dong has managed to clinch.
Christopher has Dong pressed against the cage, preventing Dong from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Dong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Christopher doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Christopher manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dong escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Christopher gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Christopher looking to sit in guard and control but Dong gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dong wants to control from the top but Christopher keeps moving.
Christopher wants to sweep here but Dong controlling him for the moment.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Christopher is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Christopher seems to have recovered his senses.

Christopher drives through and clinches with Dong against the cage.

Dong misses with a body punch.
Dong has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
A short body shot lands from Dong as the two fighters clinch.
Dong is pressed up against the cage. Christopher has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Dong down to the mat. Dong avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Dong tries to bum rush Christopher with a series of wild strikes but Christopher uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dong catches Christopher with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Dong misses with a jab, cross combination.
Dong lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Christopher shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dong defends it nicely.
Dong fails to land with a series of punches.
Dong avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Dong tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Christopher defends well and Dong ends up having to push Christopher into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Dong ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Dong no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Christopher drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Dong manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Christopher has Dong in his guard.
Christopher wants to stand but Dong is controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dong trying to control but Christopher is working from the bottom.
Christopher really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Dong drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Dong as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Christopher screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Dong! Nice submission victory there!
