The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Lawler has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Ashton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Taphorn tries to avoid it but Ashton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Taphorn to the ground. Taphorn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ashton closes the distance and clinches up with Taphorn, looking for a takedown. Ashton pushes Taphorn against the cage but Taphorn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Peter Taphorn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Ashton.
