That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Antonio Jennings.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jennings, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darrian Ashoka!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacko Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashoka tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gracie sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ashoka somewhat.

Gracie gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Gracie looking for a guillotine here but Ashoka defends easily.
Gracie wants to sweep but no luck.
Ashoka has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ashoka is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Ashoka throwing strikes from guard but Gracie blocks nicely.
Gracie can't keep his opponent in guard - Ashoka advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gracie avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ashoka.
Gracie makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Gracie.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ashoka preventing the sweep.
Ashoka is looking to work some ground and pound but Gracie has wrist control.
Ashoka looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ashoka is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gracie scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Gracie slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Gracie works to advance to full mount. Ashoka defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Ashoka is looking to get to half guard.

Gracie goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ashoka turns into him and now he's in Gracie's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gracie has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Ashoka should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Gracie has tightened it up now! Ashoka should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jacko Gracie!
