The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marbury closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Penn did well to prevent Marbury getting side control.

Marbury looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Penn tries to kick Marbury off but Marbury keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Wade avoids a punch combination nicely.
Cruz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Wade as he jumps to the side.
Wade lands a jab to Cruz's midsection.
Wade thuds a left hand into Cruz's body.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Cruz has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Wade cracks Cruz with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Victor Cruz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cruz fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Wade avoids it really well and circles away.

Wade feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Cruz sprawling to the canvas! Cruz rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Wade finish him?!

Cruz is holding his hands too far apart here. Wade throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Cruz is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

Jon connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Johnson tumbling to the canvas! Jon pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Johnson was done - good stoppage!

We've been informed that Funk has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
