The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Murphy lands a left and a right that send Souza crashing to the mat, dazed. Murphy thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Murphy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Souza misses with the combination.
Souza shoots in but Murphy avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Souza closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Murphy managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Souza.

Murphy wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Souza has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Murphy's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Murphy is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Souza!

Slate shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Johnson defends it nicely.
Meldrick Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Slate is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
