and Hugsley counters with a head kick that drops Metharom to the mat! Metharom scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

Metharom is rocked!
Metharom drops his hands momentarily. Hugsley doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Metharom staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Metharom doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Yager scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Roesch feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Yager's calf.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Roesch, right into the meat.

We've been informed that Roesch has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

That was a close round but I would say that Sutter Cane will probably get the nod.

Cane has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bernardo Marcias!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kazuteru Machida!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Machida is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Marcias's half guard.
Machida wants to pass to mount but Marcias is defending the position.
Machida throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Machida is looking for a kimura but Marcias is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Machida to get the leverage.
Marcias is trying to get back to full guard.

Machida is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Marcias is just riding it out for now. Machida eventually gives up the hold.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Machida drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Machida jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Machida is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Machida tries to close the distance and clinch but Marcias swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Machida has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Marcias is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Machida.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Marcias moves out of range as Machida strikes.
Machida is looking to land body kicks.
Machida throws a body punch but Marcias moves out of range.
Machida is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Machida manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Marcias on his heels. He'll look to pass Marcias's guard now, I'm sure.
Marcias is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Marcias lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Marcias postures up.
Machida is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Marcias stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Machida swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kazuteru Machida dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kazuteru Machida has got the better of the ground game so far.
Machida might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Marcias haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Machida swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Machida throws the kick towards the body but Marcias avoids it.
Machida doesn't manage to clinch there - Marcias circles away.
Marcias throws a push kick but Machida slaps the foot to one side.
Bernardo Marcias is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Machida throws a front kick aimed at Marcias's knee but Marcias avoids it well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Machida moves in looking to clinch but Marcias pushes him off.

and Marcias counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Machida doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Machida wants to clinch up but Marcias keeps it at a distance.
Machida has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Machida moves in looking to clinch but Marcias pushes him off.
Kazuteru Machida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Machida tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Machida shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Machida showed some decent athleticism there.
Machida throwing shots but Marcias is blocking nicely.
Marcias is looking to control Machida's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Marcias avoid being mounted?
Marcias is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Machida looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Marcias with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Machida is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Marcias tries to roll over but Machida keeps him under control.
Machida not landing any meaningful shots this time.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, if Machida is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
