The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soni throws a low kick but it's checked well by Thorpe.
Soni looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Soni tries to score a power double leg takedown but Thorpe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Soni somewhat.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Thorpe checks a leg kick.

Thorpe's coach down at The Power Plant was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Thorpe's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
