And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Saul Goodman!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Micheangelo Fripello.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Goodman drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Goodman tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Nik sneaks back into half guard.
Nik wants to get back to full guard.
Goodman with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Nik is trying to control but can't.
Nik is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nik is in trouble now - Goodman has advanced to mount!
Goodman connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Nik manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Goodman drops an elbow to the side of Nik's head.

Nik is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Goodman pulls his head out easily.
Nik has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Goodman is working away from the top position though.
Nik is looking to improve his position.
Nik makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Nik.
Nik controls Goodman momentarily but Goodman frees himself.

Goodman throws a big elbow that misses.

Nik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Goodman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Goodman slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Goodman is working Nik over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Nik has a closed guard, preventing Goodman from standing up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nik not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Goodman wants to pass the guard but Nik is keeping the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Goodman lands with a nice body punch.
Nik doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Goodman tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A nice combination there by Goodman.

It looks like Dom Nik has been cut.
Nik misses with a takedown attempt - Goodman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Goodman lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Goodman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Goodman is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Nik!

Nik tries to hold on but Goodman pushes him away.

Saul Goodman dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Dom Nik's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Goodman closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nik to the mat! Nik manages to get full guard.
Nik keeping moving, preventing Goodman from controlling successfully.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Goodman's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Goodman seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Nik is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Goodman wanted to stand there but Nik had control of the position.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Goodman throws a series of punches but Nik avoids them all with ease.
Nik attempts a counter takedown but Goodman avoids it well and moves away.
Goodman has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Nik is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Goodman scores with a three punch combo!

Dom Nik's cut is getting worse.
Nik shoots and misses

and Goodman counters with a nice right hand that sends Nik toppling to the canvas! Nik scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Goodman finish him?!

Nik is rocked!
Saul Goodman seems to be getting the better of the standup.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Goodman wobbles Nik with a right hand and the left hook that follows puts him on his rear! Goodman dives in with a huge flying punch that connects right on the button and puts Nik to sleep! - What a violent and spectacular finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Saul Goodman!
Saul Goodman is the new middleweight champion!
A relieved looking Saul Goodman thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brown closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Brown lands in his opponent's guard.
Brown is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown tries to free his leg and advance position but Frydrych is retaining full guard.
Brown trying to control the position from guard on top but Frydrych is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Brown drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Frydrych manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Brown has Frydrych in his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Frydrych stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Frydrych throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Brown works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Frydrych has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Brown avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Frydrych missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Brown has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Frydrych should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Brown has tightened it up now! Frydrych should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Watson darts in trying to clinch
and Byrd counters with a left to the body.
A combination from Byrd does no damage.
Watson tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Byrd counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Watson closes the distance but Byrd moves to the side
and Byrd counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Byrd lands a jab to Watson's midsection.
Decent striking displayed by Byrd there.
Watson doesn't manage to clinch there - Byrd circles away.
Byrd lands a nice shot that snaps Watson's head back.
Byrd works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

It looks like John Watson has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Oooooh!!! Byrd has knocked Watson down with a huge combo! Byrd steps away and waves a wobbly Watson back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Byrd lands with a right and another and another! Watson is in big trouble! Byrd lands again and this time it's lights out for Watson! A quality knockout there for Byrd.

Chris Byrd is the new heavyweight champion!
After the fight, Chris Byrd was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

and Yeah counters with a right hand to the body.
Yeah uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lyles.
Lyles takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Lyles throws a lazy uppercut
and Yeah counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Lyles misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Yeah counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lyles ducks right into an uppercut from Yeah.
Yeah avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Yeah connects with a jab.
Yeah dips to his left and cracks Lyles with an uppercut!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yeah cracks Lyles with an open hand slap.
Yeah looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Yeah defending well as Lyles loads up on a big left hand.
Lyles misses with a looping left.
Lyles throws a series of punches but Yeah avoids them all with ease.
Yeah looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Lyles tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Yeah was well out of range. Poor timing from Lyles.

We've been hearing reports that Lyles has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Lyles throws an overhand right that lands on Yeah's shoulder, as Yeah tries to avoid the shot.

Yeah avoids a punch combination nicely.
Yeah uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Lyles.
It seemed like Yeah was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

It looks like Buddy Lyles has been cut.
Yeah drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Lyles's head, knocking him out cold! Yeah is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.
