Roma throws a shot from downtown. Zero moves away and avoids it.

I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Silla Kim was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Malkind stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miller swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Malkind sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Miller's guard.
Miller has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Malkind is working away from the top position though.
Miller tries to kick Malkind off in order to stand up. Malkind Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.

Malkind has hold of Miller's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Miller seems comfortable defending it but Malkind has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Miller is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Miller is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Malkind couldn't care less - he's delighted!

With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arnaud Savage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Uesugi.
Uesugi stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Savage.
Savage scores with a leg kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Savage.
Uesugi dives in and grabs Savage's left leg, looking for a takedown. Savage pushes down on Uesugi's head and hops out.
Shizuka Uesugi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Savage as Uesugi shoots in.

Savage has hold of Uesugi's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Uesugi manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Savage is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Uesugi to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Uesugi shrugs it off.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Savage is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Uesugi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Savage knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Savage wants to advance to full mount but Uesugi doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Uesugi is on top in guard.

Uesugi has gone for a leg lock! Savage slips out almost immediately though and dives into Uesugi's guard.
