The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Angstrom throws out a loose jab but Hopkins uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hopkins is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Angstrom changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hopkins tries to close the distance and clinch but Angstrom swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Angstrom changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Hopkins fails with an attempt to clinch.
Angstrom tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Hopkins shoots in looking for a takedown but Angstrom manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hopkins's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Angstrom darts in looking for a takedown but Hopkins gets double underhooks and turns Angstrom into the cage.
Hopkins appears to be looking for a big counter.
Angstrom throws a lazy head kick

and Hopkins counters with a nice double leg into side control. Angstrom won't be happy with that.
Angstrom is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Hopkins's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Angstrom makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Angstrom.
Angstrom looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hopkins is one step ahead there.

Angstrom working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hopkins doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hopkins manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Angstrom is looking to cinch up a triangle. Hopkins throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Angstrom's body to avoid the submission. Angstrom has instead reached around Hopkins's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Angstrom arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Good exchange - Ixuctu coming out on top.
Yazhobhash Ixuctu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ixuctu shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jackson eats them both and turns towards Ixuctu to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Jackson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
A cross from Ixuctu lands.
Jackson tries to move into range but Ixuctu moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Ixuctu thuds a left hand into Jackson's body.
Ixuctu lands with a right hand.
Nice uppercut lands for Ixuctu. That snapped Jackson's head back.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nice shot lands for Ixuctu.
A jab from Ixuctu does it's job there.
Ixuctu tests Jackson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A jab from Ixuctu finds it's way through Jackson's defenses.
Ixuctu connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Jackson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Ixuctu connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Jackson scrambles back to his feet.

Jackson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Ixuctu!

Jackson has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Ixuctu is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Jackson yanks on the arm and Ixuctu is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Jackson.

Lhant lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Lhant lands a nice shot that snaps Messier's head back.
Messier takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Messier throws a right hand that Lhant ducks under and follows up with a left that Lhant also avoids with ease.

It looks like Maurice Messier has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lhant lands with a hook. Messier tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Lhant lands a left and a right that send Messier crashing to the mat, dazed. Lhant thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Messier is still on wobbly legs! Can Lhant finish him?
Lhant wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Messier walks into a straight right, dropping him to the canvas! Lhant swarms him and finishes the fight with a hail of punches! What a brutal finish!

Drvis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Drvis misses with a double jab.
Thompson misses with a leg kick.

Drvis rushes Thompson and presses him up against the cage.
Drvis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Thompson just stands there and leans against the cage.

Drvis pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Drvis shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Thompson pinned against the cage. Thompson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Thompson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Drvis can't fight it off and eventually Thompson manages to take the fight to the floor. Drvis looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Sal Thompson.
I think Thompson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rick Grimes!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Chris Saunders and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rai shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Grimes sprawls well. Grimes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Rai gets slowly back to his feet.

Rai forces Grimes back against the cage and clinches.
Grimes avoids the elbow strike from Rai, against the cage.
Rai changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Grimes fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Grimes throws a lazy uppercut

and Rai moves into the clinch.

Rai gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Grimes regains guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rai wants to control from the top but Grimes keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Grimes looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Rai throws a strike but Grimes rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rai working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grimes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grimes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rai is looking to sweep but instead, Grimes has passed into half guard.

Grimes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rai. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Grimes works his foot free and advances to mount.

Rai tries to lock up and control but Grimes gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Grimes jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Rai is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Rai and Grimes has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Rai tries to buck Grimes off but Grimes is having none of it.
Rai is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Grimes tries to stand and escape but Rai is controlling the position.
Rai has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Rai wants to control but Grimes is keeping busy.
Rai looks like he's trying to stand up.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rai on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Rai walks into a stiff left hand from Grimes.
Rai has his takedown stuffed
and Grimes counters with a stiff right hand.
Grimes misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Rai.
Rai attempts a counter takedown but Grimes avoids it well and moves away.
Grimes scores with a sloppy right hand. Rai should have avoided that one.
Grimes stuns Rai with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Grimes cracks Rai with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

We've been told by Rai's head coaches at MMA Sanok Training Center that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Rai moves forwards but Grimes connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Grimes closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Rai is rocked!
Grimes keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Oh Rai is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Grimes just misses with a punch to the body.
Rai seems to have got his legs back now.

Rai half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Rai uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Grimes.
Rick Grimes seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Grimes dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Rai fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

It looks like Quirinus Rai has been cut.
Grimes throws a series of punches but Rai moves out of range.
Grimes has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Nice body punch from Grimes.
Rai takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Rai avoids the body shot from Grimes.
Grimes digs a good body shot into Rai's ribs.

and Grimes counters with a crisp right hand that drops Rai! Grimes lets Rai back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

Rai is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Grimes.
Grimes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Grimes drops a shoulder and throws a monster hook that connects perfectly to the side of Rai's head, knocking him out cold! Grimes is extatic as he celebrates with his cornermen.
