Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Van Kirkland (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Kirkland comes into the arena with DJ Vadim - The Terrorist blaring out of the sound system. And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jerome Le Banner!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Banner will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Banner lands a right hook to the body.

Reynolds shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Banner napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Banner is looking to regain half guard here but Reynolds keeps moving and retains side control.
Reynolds throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Banner works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Reynolds thows a huge punch but Banner dodges it nicely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Reynolds closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Banner lands a right hook to the body.
Reynolds lands a glancing blow to the side of Banner's head.
Banner connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Reynolds's hands.
Banner scores with a decent looking hook.
Banner cracks Reynolds with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Reynolds throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Banner was covering up waiting for the punch and Reynolds finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Banner pushes Reynolds off and scrambles back to his feet.
Banner leaves Reynolds with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Banner's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Banner duly obliges.

It looks like Malcolm Reynolds has been cut.
Reynolds throws a body punch but Banner moves out of range.

Some wild striking there from Banner.
Reynolds takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Reynolds throws a lazy uppercut

and Banner counters with a shoot takedown. Reynolds fights it but they end up in guard.

Banner makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Reynolds lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Banner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reynolds accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Reynolds seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Banner has recovered full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reynolds stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

No joy there for Reynolds, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Reynolds seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Banner throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Banner lands a nice shot that snaps Reynolds's head back.

Reynolds walks into a stiff left hand from Banner.
Reynolds tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Banner defends well and Reynolds ends up having to push Banner into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Banner postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Oh Reynolds is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Banner works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Banner uses his free foot to push down on Reynolds's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Reynolds.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Banner! Reynolds is hurt baaadly! Banner is firing away with more strikes - Reynolds is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
