Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Big Pokey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anthony Gilmore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pokey comes to the cage accompanied by Keep My Name Out Yo Mouth. Anthony Gilmore told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pokey lands a really nice looking cross but Gilmore seems unphased.

It looks like Anthony Gilmore has been cut.
Pokey lands a nice looking body shot.
Pokey throws a shot from downtown. Gilmore moves away and avoids it.
Gilmore takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Pokey bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Gilmore tries to clinch there but Pokey circles away.

Pokey lands a left and a right that send Gilmore crashing to the mat, dazed. Pokey thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gilmore will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Big Pokey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gilmore tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pokey was well out of range. Poor timing from Gilmore.
Pokey tries to bum rush Gilmore with a series of wild strikes but Gilmore uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A little jabbing left from Gilmore on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Pokey cracks Gilmore with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Pokey has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Gilmore to stand back up!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gilmore get stunned by a cross and takes another one on the button. Gilmore stumbles backwards and tries to bounce back off the cage but Pokey runs in and jumps on him with a leaping lead hook that puts him out! Wow, that was highlight reel stuff! Awesome finish!

Derek Pappalardo decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
The defeated Lowe Joazan had this to say: 'Try better next time'.

Good exchange - Ray coming out on top.
Good shot there by Ray.
Ray bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Lopez's head backwards.
Lopez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ray sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ray shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lopez as he jumps to the side.

Ray closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lopez to the mat! Lopez manages to get full guard.
Ray working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lopez's head.
Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Lopez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Lopez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Lopez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Ray works over Lopez with some ground and pound from guard.
Ray trying to control but Lopez is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lopez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Ray has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lopez has his feet on Ray's thighs here. He's pushed Ray off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Ray screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Cartel Lopez!
During a confident post fight interview, Cartel Lopez thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
Marus Ray was interviewed post fight and said 'It's my way or the highway!'.
