Johnson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Johnson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Johnson throws a sloppy head kick and Matonen moves out of range easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Matonen went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Johnson tries to land a front kick but Matonen steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Matonen paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Matonen throws an uppercut from hell that sends Johnson clean off his feet! He's out cold! Matonen stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marc Shelton!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Franklyn Lucas and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Steed takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Shelton has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Shelton will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Shelton takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

Steed lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shelton lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Shelton throws a punch but it's blocked by Steed.
Steed trying to stall but Shelton improves his position.

Still in the clinch, Shelton scores with a nice short uppercut.
A head punch on the inside from Steed fails to land.
Steed tries to work over Shelton's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Shelton tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Steed avoids it.
Steed misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A short body shot lands from Shelton as the two fighters clinch.
Steed blocks a body shot from Shelton.
Shelton's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Steed struggles to land a body shot inside as Shelton controls his hands.
Shelton lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Steed.

Shelton has Steed pressed against the cage, preventing Steed from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Steed tries to throw a body punch but Shelton avoids it by throwing Steed back against the cage.
Steed tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Shelton's elbow.
Shelton lands a left hand that snaps the head of Steed backwards.
Shelton stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
I was talking to Steed's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Steed is breathing heavily.
Steed dodges an elbow strike from Shelton.
Shelton lands a nice shot to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Steed looking to stall.
Shelton softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Shelton lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Steed backwards.

Shelton drops Steed onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Steed is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!

Steed is rocked!
Shelton pushes Steed against the cage. Shelton is working some dirty boxing. Shelton pushes off with a quick right hook! Steed goes down! Steed tries to stand but stumbles back to his kness! Shelton moves in to finish and the ref steps in to prevent any more damage!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marc Shelton!
Marc Shelton very nearly forgot to thank Pit Bull Development amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
