Undercard bout

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul McDonald (ranked 7090 p4p, 234 weight class) and Marcos Andrade (ranked 9133 p4p, 280 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Paul McDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcos Andrade!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, David Schapiro and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McDonald takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

It looks like Paul McDonald has been cut.
Andrade throws a leg kick that is checked

so McDonald counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDonald wants to control from the top but Andrade keeps moving.
McDonald stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Andrade swivels though and keeps the full guard.
McDonald passes Andrade's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
McDonald passes to side control.
Andrade really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McDonald. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

McDonald tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McDonald has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Andrade tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Andrade is looking to work his way out of this bad position but McDonald is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

McDonald tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
McDonald works to advance to full mount. Andrade defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

McDonald has hold of Andrade's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Andrade manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

McDonald wants to finish this one by submission but Andrade is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from McDonald.

McDonald jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Andrade manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Andrade is not content to let McDonald control the position.

McDonald advances nicely into full mount.
Andrade is squirming around, avoiding McDonald's attempts to control the action.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, McDonald cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
This has been an exciting period of action!

McDonald can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Andrade is looking to escape.

McDonald swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Andrade is now in McDonald's guard. A big mistake from McDonald there, giving up the dominant position!
McDonald has control of Andrade's left arm, preventing Andrade from doing any damage.

McDonald is looking for a triangle but Andrade pushes his legs off easily.

Andrade is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but McDonald has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Andrade is looking to defend but McDonald has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Andrade! McDonald pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Andrade taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Paul McDonald!
A less than humble Paul McDonald misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.

Steward's entrance music is CFO% - Worlds Apart. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Steward swings wildly with an uppercut but Altuve uses good head movement to avoid it.
