Edwards shoots in for a takedown but Bato shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith leaves Costa with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Smith rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Costa moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tay Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Smith lands a really nice looking cross but Costa seems unphased.

It looks like Fabiano Costa has been cut.
Smith sizes up Costa with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Costa moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Costa's head backwards.
Costa shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A shot to de liver by Smith. Beautiful body shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Costa checks a leg kick.
Smith connects with a good straight punch right through the guard and follows up with a right hook and a left hook! That last one sent Costa tumbling to the canvas! Smith pours on the pressure with more strikes and the referee has no hesitation diving in to stop the fight! Costa was done - good stoppage!
