The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Al Khuzeem fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Diaz sprawls well initially but Al Khuzeem persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Al Khuzeem is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Diaz still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Diaz has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Al Khuzeem as he jumps to the side.
Diaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Al Khuzeem's waist but Al Khuzeem gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Diaz off to one side.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Al Khuzeem looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Diaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
