The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nasty forces RodneyField back against the cage and clinches.
RodneyField fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Nasty wants a takedown but no success here.

Nasty is fighting off a takedown attempt but RodneyField is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Nasty to the mat. Nasty regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Nasty is trying to keep RodneyField in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
RodneyField wants to control from the top but Nasty keeps moving.
RodneyField is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Russian Bears Training Center that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nasty can do anything to dispel that myth.

Nasty closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. RodneyField did well to prevent Nasty getting side control.

Alex Marida struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 187.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Benton has cracked Marida with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Benton lands another huge swinging hook and Marida tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Marida, before Benton can land any more shots!

Alela feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hagguss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Haggus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Alela tries to avoid it but Haggus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Alela to the ground. Alela escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Haggus misses with a hook to the ribs.
Alela lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Shoemaker shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Hassan eats them both and turns towards Shoemaker to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

It looks like Ashraf Hassan has been cut.
Hassan throws a jab when Shoemaker was well out of range.
Shoemaker throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Hassan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Shoemaker throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hassan uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Shoemaker.

Shoemaker has Hassan up against the cage in a clinch.
Hassan lands a shot to the body.

Hassan breaks from the clinch.
Hassan keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Hassan throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Shoemaker on the side of the head.
Hassan throws a lazy right hand but Shoemaker sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tiago Alexandre (ranked 903 p4p, 109 weight class) and Mathias Wendel (ranked 1720 p4p, 194 weight class). Mathias Wendel told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!
